Prestigious European Grant for FAU Chemical and Bioengineering Professor
Professor Dr. Peter Wasserscheid, head of the chair of Chemical Reaction Engineering at Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, has been awarded the prestigious "Advanced Investigators Grant" by the European Research Council. The prize which is reserved for outstanding pioneering research achievements is connected with a prize money of 1.9 Million Euro over five years.
In the project
which gained the support of the ERC, Prof. Wasserscheid and his team explore
how catalysts for chemical reactions can be improved by combining them with
ionic liquids – in order to reduce the amount of waste products of chemical
reactions and to make the catalysts more durable. Special emphasis is put on dehydrogenation of organic molecules which is widely
applied in the processing of crude oil but could become even more important in
other areas of future energy technology.
Prof. Wasserscheid who heads the FAU chair of Chemical Reaction Engineering since 2003 and already won the prominent German Leibniz Prize in 2006 belongs to the initiators of the FAU Busan project and will give lectures at the FAU Busan Campus from March 2011.
