Mechanical Process Engineering
The teaching and research in Mechanical Process Engineering has focused in recent years on wet separation of suspension. This considers wet classification, solid-liquid separation. Internationally recognized is the theoretical and applied research on hydrocyclone separation. Recently, the first computer-controlled hydrocyclone plant developed in Erlangen was started. Further work has been done in modeling of the press filtration. The research group is well equipped with several cyclone test rigs, centrifuges, filters in lab scale and pilot scale. Modern measurement device is available for particle size and density. New research has been started to particle classification in the submicron range. Creative solutions in that direction are necessary in several branches of nanotechnology. Further application of the research and development are focused on Soil remediation, Waste water treatment and solid waste treatment. Here, complex technologies considering chemical and biochemical aspects are cooperated with Dr. Breiter ( Environmental Process Engineering).
